Rawalpindi-Dengue cases in the district are on the rise, with as many as with 75 patients landing in the three teaching hospitals, informed sources on Friday.
Likewise, dozens of dengue positive patients including children are being taken to hospitals including Cantonment General Hospital Saddar, Combined Military Hospital (CMH) and Military Hospital (MH). The high-ups of district government and health authority have badly failed in overwhelming the outbreak of dengue.
According to sources, the dengue raised its ugly head in many areas of the district including Adiala Road, Ali Town, Hill View Lane, Munawar Colony, Sadiq Town, Mumtaz Market, Lane 12 and 13, Christian Colony, Dhoke Kalhoor, Jarahi, Kehkashan Colony, Janjua Town, Sanjoli Estate, Rehman Markaz, Gulshanabad, Abid Homes, Dhamial Kalyal Road, Rasoolabad Sharif, Mohra Faqeeran, Mohra Barian, Bank Colony, Bunda Nagyal, Chakri Road, Liaquat Colony, Zafar Plaza, Quaid-i-Azam Colony, Ahmedabad, Bakra Mandi, Dhoke Syedan, Baraf Khana Chowk, Girja, Chak Jalal Din, Misrial Road, Shalley Valley, Pirwadhai Morr, IJ Principal Road, Fauji Colony, Commercial Market, 6th Road, 7th Road, 4th Road, Saidpur Road, Double Road, Faizabad, Dhoke Kashmirian, Farooq-e-Azam Road, Shakrial, Kuri Road, Sadiqabad, Muslim Town, Trolley Ada, Sadiqabad Chowk, Transformer Chowk, Chah Sultan, Murree Road, Waris Khan, Kohati Bazaar, Liaquat Road, College Road, Raja Bazaar, City Saddar Road, Saddar, Mareer Chowk, Mareer Hassan, Rashid Minhas Road, Jhanda Cheechi, Morgah, Kotha Kalan, Taxi Stand, Morgah Morr, Jhamra, Officers Colony and suburbs. The residents of the area lodged complaints that the district government and other authorities concerned are not launching fumigation campaign or spraying in these areas because of which the dengue mosquitoes went out of control.

“My son, Ibrahim, aged 5, tested dengue positive after which I took him to CMH where doctors provided him medical treatment,” said Mrs Adnan Raja, living at Sadiq Town, while talking to The Nation. She said that the allied hospitals are facing acute shortages of beds and staffers that’s why she opted to visit CMH. She said that the district government had not conducted spray in her area where scores of residents were falling prey to lethal dengue. She appealed to Chief Minister Punjab to take action against the administration of Rawalpindi.
Ahmer Khan, another resident of Liaquat Colony, said that his nine-year-old daughter Amna Bibi got sick and was taken to a private hospital where doctors tested her dengue positive. He said that he visited BBH but returned home after seeing a lot of rush of patients with no sufficient medical treatment and facilities by the management of government-run hospitals.
On the other hand, a spokesman to district government Rawalpindi told media that 75 people have been tested dengue positive in the last 24 hours who are admitted in Holy Family Hospital, Benazir Bhutto Hospital and District Headquarters Hospital for medical treatment. “Police have registered 10 cases against citizens for violating dengue SOPs besides issuing warnings to 45 others where the anti-dengue teams found larvae during door-to-door surveillance campaign,” he informed.

He said that following the orders of Deputy Commissioner Flt Lt (Retd) Tahir Farooq, anti-dengue teams have accelerated the surveillance in all union councils, city areas and Cantt ahead of a rise in dengue positive cases. He said that the teams of the health department have checked houses and markets in areas of Sadiqabad, Chak Jalal Din, Dhamial, Girja Road and suburbs and issued warning to 45 people to not store water in open places. He said that the owners of the points have also been asked to follow dengue SOPs announced by the government or strict action would be taken against them.
He said that the anti-dengue teams are also crushing dengue larvae besides guiding the public how to avoid dengue mosquitoes. According to him, the allied hospitals have received a total of 1,654 dengue positive patients so far out of which five patients are critical. He said two patients had died during 2022 due to dengue while allied hospitals are housing 112 dengue positive patients to date.
